Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres), Wiranto, and Members of the
Presidential Advisory Council, Putri Kus Wisnu Wardani, H.R. Agung Laksono, and Soekarwo,
paid a working visit to Universitas Brawijaya (UB) and University of Muhammadiyah Malang
(UMM) on Monday (26/06). Also present were the Wantimpres Secretary, Agus Widodo,
Secretary to the Chairperson of the Wantimpres, Begi Hersutanto, and Secretary of the Members
of the Wantimpres, Hasbullah Ahmad, Devanto S. Pratomo, and Jan Prince Permata. The
purpose of the Wantimpres visited UB and UMM to get input regarding the role of the
University in order to contribute to the government’s efforts to educate the nation’s youth.
Wantimpres must continue to move to hear and witness what is happening in society regarding
the policies that have been conveyed by the President.
During his visit to UB, the Wantimpres was received directly by the Rector, Prof. Widodo, along
with the Vice Chancellors, the Deans, and UB’s academic community in the UB Rectorate
Building. At the meeting with UB, it was discussed the development of science and technology,
which is very important and very useful for the progress of the nation. “The president has warned
that global competition will be characterized by very tight competition. The winner is not the big
and strong country, but the one that is the fastest to seize opportunities and adopt advanced
technology, which is then developed to gain an advantage for national economic development,”
said Wiranto.
Wantimpres wants to get input from UB related to the role that the university can play in
supporting the President’s policy. This is primarily to develop science and technology for present
and future generations. “The next 13 years will be a golden opportunity for Indonesia to be able
to move from a developing country to a developed country,” said Wiranto.
The Chancellor of UB expressed his gratitude for the visit from the Presidential Advisory
Council, provided input for the future development of UB, had lots of discussions, and received
directions from the Presidential Advisory Council regarding how universities can respond to
technological developments, especially to welcome Indonesia Emas2045.
Still on the same day, the Wantimpres and its staff paid a visit to UMM. During his visit to
UMM, the Wantimpres was received directly by the Rector, Prof. Fauzan, Vice Chancellors,
Deans, and the UMM academic community. The meeting, which was held in the UMM Campus
III Rectorate Hall, discussed the Role of Muhammadiyah Education in Revitalizing and
Strengthening National Character.
The Wantimpres appreciated the UMM program to welcome Indonesia Gold. The Chairman of
the Wantimpres said that in order to face global competition, a strong character is needed, and
how to create a conducive condition to achieve the various goals that have been implemented by
the government In building the nation and achieving the golden Indonesia goal of 2045, there
needs to be unity, tolerance, and collaboration from all elements of the state.
Furthermore, the UMM Chancellor explained UMM’s real efforts to build the nation through the
center of excellence program to accelerate and strengthen the link and match between
universities and the real world.
