Putri Kus Wisnu Wardani Becomes Keynote Speaker at a Meeting between Countrieswith the theme “Collaborating to Safeguard the Kebaya of ASEAN”

Member of the Presidential Advisory Council, Putri Kus Wisnu Wardani, became the keynote
speaker at a meeting between countries with the theme “Collaborating to Safeguard the Kebaya
of ASEAN” on February 7, 2023, at the Pullman Hotel, Central Park, Jakarta. According to Putri,
with the 2023 ASEAN leadership in Indonesia, this is the right momentum to invite other
Southeast Asian countries to jointly preserve kebaya while bringing the spirit of ASEAN as a
community. By supporting kebaya as a joint nomination of the world’s intangible cultural
heritage, it will affirm the multicultural nature of kebaya and have a strong role in symbolizing
the traditional values of each region or country that is a member of ASEAN. Kebaya itself is a
traditional women’s garment originating from Indonesia and has existed since the time of the
Mataram kingdom in the early 16th century. Present at this meeting between countries were
Sidarto Danusubroto, Member of the Presidential Advisory Council; Ismunandar, Permanent
Delegate to UNESCO; Siti Nugraha Mauludiah, Expert Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
and representatives of ASEAN countries in Indonesia. Also present was the Kebaya national
team for UNESCO, together with Kebaya proposing communities in Indonesia.
