Member of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres), Dr. H. Soekarwo, SH., and M. Hum
received an audience from the Indonesian Cigarette Production Partner Association (MPSI) in
Surabaya on Friday, January 20, 2023. Pakde Karwo, nicknamed Dr. Soekarwo SH, M. Hum,
and accompanied by Secretary of Wantimpres Member Jan Prince Permata, received six MPSI
representatives led by its Chairman, Sriyadi Purnomo.
MPS representatives of Bojonegoro, Salatiga, Bantul, Pasuruan, and Rungkut conveyed
aspirations related to the Tobacco Products Industry (IHT), especially the Hand-Rolled Clove
Cigarettes (SKT) segment, which is a labor-intensive industry that absorbs millions of workers in
each link.
In this meeting, MPSI also discussed the proposed revision of Government Regulation Number
109 of 2012 concerning the safeguarding of substances containing addictive substances in the
form of tobacco products for health. MPSI said that the revision of PP 109/2012 does not need
to be done because it is still able to accommodate various cigarette and tobacco problems in
Indonesia. In addition, the PP Revision will also urge the tobacco ecosystem, which has not fully
recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic, to make changes.
Paguyuban MPSI is a forum that houses 38 cigar manufacturers that employ more than 45
thousand workers spread across West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java.
