Member of the Presidential Advisory Council, Sidarto Danusubroto, delivered a speech at the opening of the Medical ASEAN (MASEAN) Conference held at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, on Saturday, December 3, 2022. This event was also attended by the Chairman of the Indonesian Doctors Association, Adib Khumaidi, the Chairman of MASEAN 2020-2022, Nguyen Thi Xuyen, and the Head of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Widyawati.
Sidarto Danusubroto emphasized that Indonesia is one of the top five countries in terms of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, many doctors and health workers died in the fight against COVID-19, according to Sidarto.
“They (doctors and health workers) are really humanitarian heroes in our eyes. They raised how COVID-19 is quickly resolved in Indonesia; it is extraordinary, including the best,” Sidarto said.
Sidarto also appreciated the election of Adib Khumaidi as chairman of MASEAN, replacing Nguyen Thi Xuyen. He hopes that in the future, doctors’ organizations throughout ASEAN can increase cooperation.
“This is the time to further strengthen the cooperation of ASEAN doctors in the context of knowledge exchange, cooperation, and so on to overcome health problems,” said Sidarto.
Meanwhile, Adib Khumaidi said that IDI would share the experience of handling the COVID-19 pandemic by the Indonesian government with medical professional organizations throughout ASEAN. In this two-day ASEAN activity (3–4 December), each ASEAN country’s medical professional organization will share experiences related to handling COVID-19 and future steps.
