President Joko Widodo receives Mardiono, Member of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres), at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, October 10, 2022. In a statement after the meeting, Mardiono said that his meeting with the President was to seek further direction after he received the mandate as the Acting Chairman of a political party.
In accordance with applicable regulations, Mardiono said that he was not allowed to hold multiple positions. Therefore, Mardiono stated that he would resign from his post as a member of Wantimpres no later than three months from becoming the Acting Chairman of a political party.
Regarding the resignation, President Jokowi requested that Mardiono first complete the task at hand before submitting the resignation letter.
At the meeting, Mardiono conveyed to the President about the study on the acceleration of rural economic development which he is currently still doing. Mardiono said that the study was one of his duties as a member of Wantimpres in the field of people’s welfare.
Meanwhile, regarding his successor, Mardiono explained that the President has the prerogative to determine his successor in Wantimpres. However, if given the opportunity to propose replacement names, Mardiono said that the names of the proposed figures were the result of the decision of the management during daily party meetings.
