H.R. Agung Laksono, Member of Wantimpres opens Limited Discussion on Control of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) 

H.R. Agung Laksono, Member of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) opened a Limited Discussion with the theme “Evaluation of Strengthening Coordination across Coordinating Ministries in the Context of Controlling Antimicrobial Resistance”, which was held at the JS Luwansa Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday (12/07/2022).

In his remarks, H.R. Agung Laksono, conveyed that antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has the potential to become an outbreak of resistant bacterial infection which is widely known as “a slow moving pandemic”, which is a global threat because it has an impact on the economy, food security, environmental damage, and so on. Antimicrobials are drugs used to prevent and treat infections in humans, animals and plants including antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals and anti-parasitics. AMR occurs when it is overused or misused. The main factors for the occurrence of AMR and its causes are: Humans, livestock, poultry, fish, plants and hospital waste. In addition, various AMR control activities from various Ministries and institutions were also discussed.

The Limited Discussion which was held in collaboration with the Wantimpres and FFCGI was also attended by Dr. dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, DHSM., MARS, Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, drg. Murti Utami, MPH, QGIA, CGCAE, Plt. Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Pujo Setio, Assistant Deputy for Livestock and Fishery Agribusiness Development, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs as resource persons and Prof. Dr. Amin Subandrio W Kusumo, Ph.D., SpMK (K), Clinical Microbiology Expert at the University of Indonesia as moderator and Dr Tom Weaver., Ph.D, Fleming Fund Country Grant to Indonesia (FFGCI) Team Leader.
