Soekarwo Presents Solutions to Food Problems in “Airlangga Forum Podcast” Postgraduate School of Airlangga University

Member of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres), Soekarwo, became a speaker in the “Airlangga Forum Podcast” with the theme “Fulfilling Food Needs and National Independence” which was held by the Postgraduate School of Airlangga University on Friday , September 3rd, 2021.

This event also featured the Director of the Postgraduate School of Airlangga University Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco, Deputy Director III of the Postgraduate School of Airlangga University Suparto Wijoyo and Agricultural Analyst of UPN Veteran East Java Dr. Ir. Zainal Abidin MS.

In his presentation, Pakde Karwo explained the problem of the price of grain and rice received by the farmers during the harvest period which was always below the government’s purchase price, the problem of food imports and the incompatibility of food data. According to Pakde Karwo, agricultural transformation on the upstream and downstream sides can be the solutions and answered to these problems.

The hope for the realization of food sovereignty is also getting stronger through the establishment of the National Food Agency (BPN) through Presidential Decree No. 66 of 2021 on July 29, 2021. Pakde Karwo emphasized that the National Food Agency must be firm in regulating food, able to overcome the chaotic food governance and provide added value to farmers as well as improve farmers welfare.
