In order to gain some information about the latest development of new airports in several regions in Indonesia, General (Ret.) Agum Gumelar, Member of the Presidential Advisory Council (WANTIMPRES) invited Mr. Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia to discuss regarding that matter on July 31, 2018. The focus of the discussion was the development of new international airport in North Region of Bali that can support the main airport, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Agum Gumelar emphasized that Bali has enormous potential as a world tourism object. The number of foreign tourists coming to Bali in 2018 are growing over the years (It’s calculated around 7 million foreign tourists in 2018). In addition, Bali is a special destination that is often chosen as the place to held major international events. Knowing the fact that foreign tourists coming to Bali have been significantly increased over the years, he urged on the necessary to built additional airport in Bali that functioned as an alternate airport (alternate aerodrome).
